URGENT NEED FOR COACHES!
Dear Ponoka Minor Ball Families,
A friendly reminder that we are still seeking coaches for some of the Ponoka ball teams. There are team and roster deadlines the association needs to meet and without coaches we cannot register these teams for the season.
Girls Softball
In our Girls Softball program we are still seeking a head coach for our U13 and U15 teams.
Baseball
We are still short of coaches for teams in our 11U and 15U age divisions for our Baseball program.
URGENT & IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL 11U REGISTRATIONS (Including underage 9U and overage 13U players):
There is still currently only one interested head coach for the 11U Divison. In order to move forward with three teams in the 2023 baseball season, two more head coach positions must be filled.
11U parents/guardians, please read over the important information below. Our hope is that by having this information you are able to better understand what possibly lays ahead for the 11U Baseball Players.
- 38 players are registered in the 11U age division
- All registered 11U teams will attend the Community League Playoffs which will be held June 24th, 25th- Location TBD
- 11U Provincial 'A' REP Team will be formed if we have an interested coach willing to enter and take a team to 'A' Provincials. This would commit potential coaches and players to an extra month of baseball.
- Round 1 Tiering - July 8th & 9th (Location TBD)
- Round 2 Tiering - July 15th & 16th (Location TBD)
- Provincials July 21, 22, 23 (Location TBD)
- We understand that this would involve more commitment from families but if you are interested in coaching this team or have a player interested in playing/committing to these dates for a REP ‘A’ team, please email ponokamb.president@gmail.com by Monday, April 3rd.
- Community/A Team Registration Deadline is April 14, 2023. If we are not able to solidify additional coaching by April 10th then the following will need to happen:
- 9U underage players that were registered in 11U will move back down to 9U
- 13U overaged players will unfortunately not have a team in Ponoka. There were not enough players for a 13U Community Baseball Team.
- Remaining 29 registered 11U players will be trying out for a spot one 11U team with a head coach. Registered Baseball Alberta Teams may only include 18 players maximum. This leaves, at minimum, 11 players that won't get to play in the 2023 Baseball Season.
- 11U Outdoor Season will be on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Sundays
- The Central Alberta Baseball League (CABL) will be scheduling 10-12 games per team this season.
- Games will generally run on either Monday or Wednesday with a typical start time of 6:30pm
- First possible game could be as early as May 8th.
- 11U Indoor Schedule is pending - start date TBD based on additional volunteers.
- With 38 kids more volunteers are needed to ensure these indoor practices can move forward.
- When there are enough coaches / volunteers to proceed, 11U Baseball Players will be practicing indoors on Mondays and Wednesdays starting April 5th, 2023 from 7:00pm-8:00pm at the Ponoka Curling Rink
